Last updated: 2 November 2026

1. Who we are and what these terms cover
1.1 My First Mate is operated by MY FIRST MATE SINGLE MEMBER S.A. ("My First Mate", "we", "us" or "our"), a company registered in Greece with General Commercial Registry (G.E.MI.) number 184038507000 and VAT number 802856069, whose registered office is at 224 Syngrou Avenue, 17672 Kallithea, Greece. Our contact details are in section 26.
1.2 These Terms of Service ("terms") apply to your use of our websites, including myfirstmate.pro and myfirstmate.co; our mobile apps, when they are available; our itineraries and maps embedded on other websites; and the messages we exchange with you by email, WhatsApp and other channels. Together, these are the "Service".
1.3 You accept these terms when you tick the box that says so at sign-up. If you use the Service without an account, these terms apply to that use too. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the Service.
1.4 How we handle personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Policy. You can change your cookie choices at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of our pages or in the menu.
1.5 In these terms, a "consumer" is a person using the Service for purposes outside their trade, business or profession. If you use the Service for a business, section 16 applies to you as well.
1.6 Our group. Our "group companies" are My First Mate's shareholders, any parent company of My First Mate, and any company that controls, is controlled by or is under common control with My First Mate. They may help us provide the Service. Wherever these terms protect us, including the licences you give us (section 9), our intellectual property (section 13), a business's indemnity (section 16.5), and the disclaimers and limits in sections 20 and 21, they protect our group companies, and our and their directors, officers and employees, in the same way and subject to the same exceptions, and each of them may rely on those protections.
2. What My First Mate is, and what it is not
2.1 My First Mate is a planning and information platform for sailing. Depending on what is available at the time, the Service includes a map of anchorages, harbours and marinas ("havens") with our assessment of their suitability (the "haven score"), weather forecasts, suggested routes, navigational and safety warnings, seamark and seabed information, itinerary and crew planning, a knowledge base, features powered by artificial intelligence, alerts and notifications, and support from our team.
2.2 My First Mate is not:
- a charter company, booking agent or travel agent: we do not rent out boats and we do not take payment for charters (see section 15);
- navigation equipment or an official nautical chart (see section 3);
- an emergency or rescue service (see section 3.13).
2.3 The Service changes over time. We add, change and remove features. Some features are marked "beta" or "preview": they are still being tested and may be less reliable than the rest of the Service. Section 18 explains what happens when we change or withdraw a feature.
3. Safety first: how to use our information
Sailing carries real risks. My First Mate helps you plan, but it cannot see the sea, your boat or your crew. This section applies to everything the Service shows or tells you, whoever produced it: us, our data providers, artificial intelligence, our skippers, charter companies, partners or other users.
3.1 A planning aid, not a navigation tool. The Service is not a nautical chart and not certified navigation equipment, and it does not satisfy any legal requirement to carry official charts, publications or equipment on board. Use official charts, Notices to Mariners, pilot books and your boat's instruments, and never rely on a single source of information, including us.
3.2 The skipper decides. The skipper alone is responsible for:
- passage planning and the decision whether to sail, where to go and when;
- choosing where and how to anchor or moor, and keeping a proper lookout;
- complying with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and with local rules;
- the boat's seaworthiness and equipment, and the safety of everyone on board;
- holding the licences, qualifications and insurance that are required.
Nothing the Service shows you, and nothing we say, takes over any of these responsibilities.
3.3 Weather. Forecasts in the Service come from third-party weather models and services, not from us. Models can be wrong, and they often miss local effects such as gusts off high ground, sea breezes, wind funnelling between islands and thunderstorms. Check the official marine forecast, NAVTEX and VHF weather broadcasts before you leave and while you are at sea.
3.4 Havens and haven scores. A haven score is our model's assessment of how sheltered a place is likely to be from the forecast wind and swell, based on the data we have. It cannot see conditions on the day: the holding, how crowded the haven is, the actual swell, changes in depth, moorings, fees or local bans. A high score does not mean that a haven is safe, available or suitable for your boat.
3.5 Routes and distances. The routes we suggest are rough planning lines that avoid land in our data. They do not take account of every shallow, rock, wreck, traffic separation scheme, restricted area or current, or of the weather. Distances and times are estimates. Never follow a suggested route as a track.
3.6 Seamarks, depths, tides and seabed data. This information comes from community and scientific datasets and may be incomplete, wrong or out of date. A hazard or a mark that is not shown may still be there.
3.7 Navigational warnings. We republish some official navigational and safety warnings, from some countries only, sometimes with delays, gaps or automatic translation. A missing warning does not mean that there is none. Always check the official notices, NAVTEX and VHF.
3.8 Seagrass, protected areas and anchoring rules. What we show about protected seabed, marine reserves and anchoring restrictions is information, not legal advice, and it may be incomplete or out of date. Check the local regulations. You are responsible for complying with them and for any fines.
3.9 Alerts and notifications. When the Service sends alerts or notifications, for example about the weather or warnings during a trip, they may arrive late or not at all (for example without a connection, with notifications switched off or with a flat battery), and they may be wrong. They do not replace keeping watch, an anchor alarm or your own checks, and the absence of an alert does not mean that all is well.
3.10 AI answers. Answers produced by artificial intelligence may be wrong even when they sound certain. Check them before you act on them (see section 8).
3.11 Human skipper support. Our skippers advise remotely, and the decision stays with you (see section 7).
3.12 Partner and user content. Information from charter companies, partners and other users comes from them. We check it only where we say so.
3.13 Not an emergency service. In an emergency, use VHF channel 16 or DSC, an EPIRB or PLB, or contact the coastguard. Never rely on the Service, our WhatsApp support or our skippers to raise the alarm or to call for help.
3.14 Plan for no connection. The Service needs a working device and, for most features, an internet connection. At sea you may have neither. Carry what you need offline, including official charts and forecasts.
4. Who can use My First Mate, and your account
4.1 You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. An adult account holder can include younger crew members in a plan (see section 5).
4.2 You sign in with a one-time code that we send you, through your Google account, or by another method we offer. Keep the email address or account you sign in with secure: anyone who can read your sign-in codes can use your account.
4.3 Give us accurate details and keep them up to date. An account is for one person: do not share it or let anyone else use it.
4.4 You are responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has used it, tell us straight away at team@myfirstmate.pro.
5. Your crew's details
5.1 When you add crew members to a plan or invite them, and give us details such as their name, phone number, email address or date of birth, you confirm that you are allowed to share those details with us and that you have told them how we use them, as described in our Privacy Policy.
5.2 Add a minor's details only with the consent of their parent or guardian.
5.3 We send invitations at your request and in your name. Only invite people who know you and expect to hear from you.
6. Free and paid features
6.1 Most of the Service is free to use. Some features are paid, or will become paid, for example a Premium plan, higher limits on AI features, or other plans.
6.2 Before you buy, we show you the price, what is included and, for a subscription, the billing period and how to cancel. Nothing is charged without your explicit agreement. Any terms we show you when you buy apply in addition to these terms, and if the two conflict, the purchase terms prevail for that purchase.
6.3 Apple and Google bill and refund purchases made through the App Store or Google Play under their own terms (see section 19).
6.4 Your statutory rights, including any right of withdrawal under the law of the country where you live, are not affected.
6.5 Fair use. To keep the Service available to everyone at a sustainable cost, we may limit how much you use it, for example the number of AI requests, searches or other actions in a period. Where a paid plan includes an allowance, we tell you what it is, and we will not limit you below it except to stop abuse or a breach of these terms.
7. Human skipper support
7.1 Some plans include support from experienced skippers on our team, for example by WhatsApp message, voice call or video call.
7.2 Our skippers advise remotely. They base their advice on what you tell them and on the information available to them, such as forecasts. They cannot see your boat, your crew or the conditions around you, and they are not on board.
7.3 Their advice is a second opinion to help you decide. It is not pilotage, and it does not transfer any of the skipper's responsibilities in section 3.2 to us. The decision, and the responsibility for it, stay with you.
7.4 We aim to reply quickly, but we do not guarantee a reply within any particular time or at every hour. Skipper support is not an emergency service (see section 3.13).
8. AI features
8.1 Some answers, suggestions and tools in the Service are produced automatically by artificial intelligence, using models from third-party providers.
8.2 AI output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date, even when it sounds confident, and it does not know the actual conditions where you are. Check it against reliable sources before you rely on it, especially for anything that affects safety.
8.3 Do not enter other people's sensitive personal information, such as health details, into AI features. Our Privacy Policy explains what we send to AI providers and how long it is kept.
8.4 AI features are subject to fair-use limits (see section 6.5).
9. Your content
9.1 "Your content" is what you create or upload in the Service: itineraries, plans, notes, location reports and the photos attached to them, your messages to our team, and similar material.
9.2 You keep ownership of your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free and perpetual licence to use your content to run the Service: to store and host it; to show it to you and to the people you share it with; to edit, adapt and derive from it, for example to correct or add to our haven data using your location report; and to have our group companies and service providers do these things for us.
9.3 We use the photos attached to location reports only to correct or add to our data. We publish a photo only if the report form said, when you sent it, that we might.
9.4 You confirm that you have the rights needed to give us this licence, that your content is lawful and, as far as you know, accurate, and that you have the permission of any identifiable person in your photos.
9.5 If you send us ideas, suggestions or feedback, we may use them and build on them freely, without owing you anything.
9.6 We do not check content before it is stored, but we may review, restrict or remove content that breaks these terms or the law (see section 12).
9.7 If you delete content or your account, we stop showing that content to others and delete it as our Privacy Policy describes. What we have already derived from it, such as corrections to our haven data, remains part of the Service, and the licence in section 9.2 continues only for that.
10. Sharing itineraries
10.1 You can share an itinerary by link. Anyone who has the link can view the itinerary, and people who open it while signed in are added to it as viewers.
10.2 You decide who gets the link. Treat it like a key: anyone you send it to can pass it on.
11. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for anything unlawful, or to harm, harass or mislead anyone;
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download the Service or its data, or access it by automated means other than the embeds and interfaces we provide for that purpose;
- use our content or data to train or improve artificial intelligence or machine-learning systems;
- copy, resell, republish or commercially exploit our data, maps, haven scores or other content, except as these terms allow;
- reverse engineer the Service, or get around usage limits, access controls or security measures;
- send false or misleading location reports or other reports;
- use invitations, sharing or other messages sent through our system to spam people or to contact people who do not expect it;
- upload content that you do not have the rights to, or that is unlawful, infringing or contains malicious code;
- impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your connection with a person or business;
- interfere with the Service or put an unreasonable load on it.
12. Reporting content, and how we decide
12.1 How to report. If you believe that something in the Service is illegal, or that safety information is wrong, tell us: use the Report button where the Service offers one, or email team@myfirstmate.pro. Please tell us where the content is, why you believe it is illegal or wrong, your name and email address, and that you believe in good faith that your report is accurate and complete. If you give us your contact details, we confirm that we received your report and tell you what we decided.
12.2 How we decide. We review every report, and any problem we find ourselves, carefully, objectively and proportionately, taking into account the rights and legitimate interests of everyone involved. People on our team make content decisions. We use automated tools to detect abuse such as spam or excessive automated use.
12.3 What we may do. We may remove content, restrict who can see it, limit features, or suspend or close an account.
12.4 Telling you why. When we act against your content or your account, we tell you what we did and why, including the facts we relied on and the law or the part of these terms involved, unless the law prevents us or we have no way to contact you.
12.5 Disagreeing with a decision. If you disagree with a decision we made, reply to our message or email team@myfirstmate.pro within six months, and someone who was not involved in the original decision will review it. You can also use any other remedy the law gives you, including going to court.
12.6 Contact point. Under the EU Digital Services Act, our single point of contact for users, and for the European Commission, Digital Services Coordinators and other authorities, is team@myfirstmate.pro. We communicate with users in English. Authorities may contact us in English or Greek.
13. Our content and intellectual property
13.1 The Service, including its software, design, maps as we present them, haven scores, descriptions, curated itineraries, knowledge base, texts, photos and our name and logo, belongs to us, our group companies or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.
13.2 We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the Service for your own, non-commercial sailing planning, in line with these terms. Business accounts may also use it as section 16 allows.
13.3 Some data in the Service comes from third parties under their own licences, such as OpenStreetMap and OpenSeaMap data under the Open Database License. Our Attributions page lists the sources and their licences. Do not remove or hide attributions.
13.4 If you believe that something in the Service infringes your rights, report it as described in section 12.
14. Third-party services and links
14.1 The Service uses and links to services run by others, for example Google Maps, the Windy weather viewer, WhatsApp, charter companies' websites and the other sailing apps we list. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.
14.2 We do not control these services and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. A link is not an endorsement.
15. Charter companies and bookings
15.1 We do not sell or book charters and we do not take payment for them. If you charter a boat, your contract is with the charter company or your agent, not with us. The charter company is responsible for the boat, the booking, payment, deposits, insurance and its own terms.
15.2 Information that charter companies and other partners provide through the Service, such as customer packets, documents, boat details and suggested itineraries, is their responsibility (see section 3.12).
15.3 Documents that you upload for a booked charter, such as your skipper licence, radio licence or passport, are passed to that charter company for your booking.
16. Business accounts
16.1 This section applies if you use the Service for a business, for example as a charter company, travel agent or other partner (a "business account").
16.2 The person who opens or uses a business account confirms that they are authorised to accept these terms for the business, and the business is bound by them.
16.3 The business is responsible for making sure that everything it publishes or provides through the Service is accurate and lawful. If it uploads personal data about its customers or staff, it must have a lawful basis for doing so and must give those people the notices the law requires.
16.4 Embeds. A business may embed our itineraries and maps only on websites that it operates, using the code we provide, without modifying them, and with our credit and links in place. We may limit how much an embed is used, ask for changes, or switch an embed off at any time.
16.5 The business will indemnify us and our group companies against claims, losses and reasonable costs, including legal fees, arising from its content, its use of the Service or its breach of these terms.
16.6 Provisions of these terms that exist only to protect consumers do not apply to business accounts, to the extent the law allows.
16.7 If a business has signed a separate agreement with us, that agreement prevails over these terms where the two conflict.
17. Messages from us
17.1 Some messages are part of the Service: sign-in codes, invitations you ask us to send, replies to your support requests, and important notices about your account or these terms. We send them by email, WhatsApp or another channel you use with us.
17.2 We send marketing messages only if you opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time, using the link in any marketing email or by writing to us.
18. Availability and changes to the Service
18.1 We work to keep the Service running, but we do not promise that it will be available at all times or free of errors. We may interrupt it for maintenance, for security, or for reasons outside our control.
18.2 We may change, suspend or withdraw features. If we withdraw a paid feature during a period you have paid for, we refund the unused part.
19. Mobile apps, the App Store and Google Play
19.1 When we offer mobile apps, these terms apply to them. Our apps are licensed to you, not sold. Some features may require the latest version of the app.
19.2 If you get our app from Apple's App Store:
- these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content;
- your licence to the app is non-transferable and limited to Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions permit, including Family Sharing where available;
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app;
- if the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any; to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws;
- if a third party claims that the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging the claim;
- you confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a United States Government embargo or that the United States Government has designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
- you must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile data plan;
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Our name, address and contact details for questions, complaints and claims about the app are in section 26.
19.3 If you get our app from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply to your download and to purchases made through it. Google is not responsible for the app.
20. No warranties
20.1 To the extent the law allows, the Service and all information in it are provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that the information is accurate, complete or current, that the Service will meet your needs, or that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors.
20.2 If you are a consumer, you keep the rights that the law gives you, including your rights when digital content or a digital service does not conform to the contract. Nothing in these terms affects them.
21. Limitation of liability
21.1 Accuracy of information. The information in the Service, including weather forecasts, haven scores, routes and distances, seamarks, depths, tides, navigational warnings, and what comes from artificial intelligence, our skippers, charter companies, partners and other users, comes from many sources, and much of it is produced automatically. We do not guarantee that any of it is accurate, complete or up to date. You must not rely on it as your only source for any decision, and especially not for one that affects safety (see section 3).
21.2 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for gross negligence, intentional misconduct or fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit.
21.3 Subject to section 21.2, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for a lost or spoiled holiday or charter, arising from your use of the Service or your inability to use it.
21.4 Subject to section 21.2, our total liability to you for all claims, together with that of our group companies and the people section 1.6 names, is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim, or €100 if you paid us nothing.
22. Suspending or closing an account
22.1 You can stop using the Service at any time. You can delete your account from your profile menu, or ask us to delete it by writing to privacy@myfirstmate.pro.
22.2 We may suspend or close your account, or restrict features, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. We act proportionately and, where we can, we warn you first and tell you why (see section 12.4).
22.3 When an account is closed, its content is handled as described in section 9.7. Sections 9.2, 9.5, 13, 16.5, 20, 21 and 24 continue to apply.
23. Changes to these terms
23.1 We may change these terms when there is a good reason: to reflect new or changed features, changes in the law or in regulators' guidance, security needs, or to prevent abuse.
23.2 We tell you about material changes at least 7 days before they take effect, by email or in the Service, unless the law requires a change to take effect sooner. Changes that do not affect your rights, such as corrections or clearer wording, take effect when we publish them.
23.3 If you do not agree with a change, you can close your account before it takes effect, and we refund the unused part of any period you have paid for. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, the changed terms apply to you.
24. Law and disputes
24.1 These terms are governed by the laws of Greece.
24.2 If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring proceedings in the courts there. Otherwise, the courts of Athens, Greece, have jurisdiction.
24.3 If you have a complaint, please contact us first at team@myfirstmate.pro, so that we can try to resolve it.
25. General
25.1 These terms, together with any purchase terms (see section 6.2) and, for a business, any separate agreement (see section 16.7), are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
25.2 If any part of these terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
25.3 If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
25.4 We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another company, including one of our group companies, for example if our business is sold or reorganised. We will tell you, and your rights will not be reduced as a result. You may not transfer yours.
25.5 These terms are written in English. If we provide a translation, the English version prevails, to the extent the law allows.
25.6 We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages of internet or cloud providers, failures of third-party data sources, natural disasters, war or acts of government.
25.7 No one other than you and us has rights under these terms, except the group companies and people section 1.6 names, and Apple as section 19.2 describes.
